Pittsburgh New Church School

Feeding the mind.  Touching the heart.  Preparing for life.

About PNCS

PNCS offers a holistic education. We balance academics with experiential learning and physical activity. We underpin the whole effort with solid spiritual values. It is a small, friendly, well-run school. Children get a great education, they feel at home, they remain curious, they make good friends, and they learn to be good people.

There are New Church schools around the world, including three in Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh New Church School is one of the oldest, having been founded in 1885. The school is sponsored by the Pittsburgh New Church, which dates from the 1840's, and has played an influential role in the development of the city.

If you're hearing about New Church education for the first time, there are probably lots of things you will be curious about. You've probably heard about Waldorf schools, and Montessori schools, and of course Catholic Schools and other church affiliated ones - but not New Church schools. Not yet! Our educational model is not as well-known, but it's playing a role with growing importance now, in a world where traditional schools are failing, and post-modern ones are turning out to be too shallow.

I went to PNCS from Kindergarten through 9th grade, and I wouldn't have traded it for the world. When I went on to tenth grade in public school, I was way ahead. I sent Olivia there because it's a great education and it's safe. It's challenging but it's innocent, too. A unique mixture.
